What is Birdathon?

Birdathon is Tahoma Audubon's annual community fundraiser. It is a fun way to engage with birds and nature while raising essential funds to support our mission of connecting people with birds and nature.

Birdathon is exciting, educational and fun! Everyone is welcome from expert birders, casual birdwatchers, beginners or even folks just looking to get outside. This year to help us celebrate our 50th Anniversary we are adding unique walks for beginners.

Like a walk-a-thon, Birdathon participants collect pledges from friends and family for finding and counting birds. Officially, a count lasts for 24 contiguous hours anytime between April 1 and June 21. For those seasoned birdathoners it can get very competitive. Sponsors are even known to donate a dollar amount for each species of bird seen.

We have prizes for our top teams and individuals and a summertime event to celebrate together.

We hope you'll join us for the 2019 Birdathon!

SIGN UP! Create a new account and set up your personal page or create a team page. Upload a photo of yourself, tell people which trip you're going on and add a personal note.

COLLECT PLEDGES AND DONATIONS! Share your Birdathoner page on social media, via email and by calling or asking friends and family in person to donate or sponsor you with a pledge per bird (for example, $1 per bird spotted).

GET OUT AND COUNT BIRDS! Our 2019 Birdathon field trips will officially launch in April. You can see the current list here, but check back often as new trips will be added throughout the Birdathon time period. Field trips vary and a brief description of each is provided. Some trips are 2 full days other are just a few hours. And we strongly encourage you to create your own trip or just count the birds in your backyard. Send us a trip report and post the results to your Birdathon page when you've finished!

4. CELEBRATE & WIN PRIZES. Birdathon promises to be fun, educational and rewarding! In a lighthearted spirit of competition, we'll be awarding prizes for Most Species Seen, Most Money Raised, Most Pledges Received, Rookie of the Year and Best Birdathon Photos as well as celebrating together at our mid-summer celebration.
