Birdathon is here! Each year Tahoma Audubon hosts its annual fundraising event, Birdathon, and we invite you to join us! Participants embark on a one day birding whirl-wind and raise money to support Tahoma Audubon. Anyone can participate –from a novice back yard birdwatcher to an expert birder. Count birds by yourself, for or with a team, with friends, children and family, or join us on one of our scheduled field trips.
It’s easy to be a part of Birdathon. Simply choose a 24-hour period between April 30th and May 31st, collect pledges and then get outside and count as many bird species as you can! Birdathon gives you a chance to get outside, and be involved in something that benefits the entire community. Funds raised from this event support all our programs such as Osprey Club (an after school program for local middle schools) and our new Volunteer Naturalist Program which is so popular there is a long waiting list to participate! Be involved in something that can truly make a difference.
After completing your day of birding, please remember to contact your sponsors and thank them with a nice letter about how you did on your Birdathon. Include how many species you saw, any fun stories and maybe some pictures. Ask them to send their pledge money in with checks payable to Tahoma Audubon Society. In turn, you send the money to us.
Step by step process to a successful Birdathon:
- 1. Register to participate in Birdathon. Call or email Cami Kesinger to register.
- 2. Ask family, friends, co-workers, neighbors or ANYONE to sponsor you. You can call, email or send a written request to sponsors. They can sponsor you a set dollar amount, or an amount per bird species (example $5.00 per species).
- 3. Getoutside and do your Birdathon between April 25th and May 31st. You can do it in a park, at home, at the beach, or on one of our exciting, guided field trips lead by expert birders. You must call 253-565-9278 to sign up. Count your species during the trip (or during the 24 hr period).
- 4. Write you Field Trip Report/Birdathon Thank You Letter and send to your sponsors within one week of the trip. Instruct your sponsors to send their checks to:
